Saint-Malo: keeping winter rocking

La Route du Rock, is a legendary music festival held every summer in Saint-Malo, Brittany . The programme is packed with the very best independent rock music . As the locals are known for their generosity, they decided to put on a second date in winter for a more intimate and jovial event that still keeps it rocking.

“The Route du Rock is all about dreams. 2005 was an iconic year. It was the year that we had The Cure, and broke all of our records. But I was frustrated that we only did it once a year, in summer. It felt like it wasn’t enough”, explains François Floret, director of the famous festival. The first winter edition was launched in 2006...

While summer in Saint-Malo is synonymous with crowds, winter is a lot quieter. But the low season is not without a charm of its own. “Saint-Malo without the crowds but with great weather is an amazing place! It might be the best time of year for appreciating the city. Getting a big breath of fresh seaside air, then later going to see great bands in an amazing venue. It can't be beaten!”

Don’t know much about Brittany or the Route du Rock? Now’s the time to fix that. And if you get a taste for winter festivals, head to Rennes for the Transmusicales or Chamonix for Musilac, which is launching its Mont-Blanc edition.
