The Battlefields of the Somme 

The Somme suffered severely in the battles of the first world war. On your own or with a qualified guide, you can tour the circuit of remembrance and discover the traces of the Great War. The remembrance trail follows a way-marked route to link the two symbolic towns of the Great War Albert and Péronne. Located in Péronne in the heart of the battlefields, the  Historial, museum of the Great War  is an outstanding museum. It explains the conflict, its origins and the consequences by comparing the main countries who fought on the Western front. The Historial boasts a unique collection which shows both the soldiers’experience and that of the civilians. In Villers Bretonneux, the National Australian Memorial honours the Australian soldiers missing in action during the Great War and the Australian Museum hosted in the Victoria school describes the role played by Australian troups during the first world war. Close to the Somme battlefields : Amiens the main and capital city of Picardy with is gothic cathedral listed as a Unesco world heritage : It is the largest gothic cathedral ever built. Amiens also host Jules Verne’s house which can be visited , and not to be missed during the visit :the hortillonnages  (floating gardens created by the Romans)
