Discover Minerve 34210 Minerve fr

The fortified medieval village of Minerve lies in the midst of the arid landscape of Hérault and still today retains traces of its rich past. Perched atop a rocky peninsula, the village is naturally protected by the canyon that wraps around it.

From its overhanging position, this mineral-rich village sits tucked in between between lush valleys of garrigue, vineyards, olive groves and chestnuts.

As the historic capital of the Minervois region, Minerve is also one of the pestigious gateways to the Haut-Languedoc Natural Regional Park and is classified among France's Most Beautiful Villages.

Minerve bears the imprint of prehistoric hunter-gatherers, but is perhaps best known as the site of the painful crusade against the Cathars that took place during the year 1210.

But today, Minerve has also come to be recognized for its great wines. The first vines in the area were planted by the Romans, but over the years Minerve has developed the production of full-bodied and fruity wines.
