First Festival of the Gardens of the Côte-d'Azur Menton fr

For its first edition, this festival, which will take place from April 1 to May 1, 2017, looks bright in color!

 A manifestation vegetable

The Côte d'Azur celebrates its "green heritage", its sumptuous gardens, on the occasion of this event within the framework of the European project JARDIVAL to protect and enhance the gardens of the Côte d'Azur and the Italian Riviera.

Five Azurean cities: Antibes, Cannes, Grasse, Menton and Nice put their gardens on their 31 and create new ephemeral spaces for the duration of the festival. On this occasion, Nice will lift the veil on an additional garden of 1,400 m² installed on the Promenade du Paillon.

On the program of this spring event: a competition of gardens as well as multiple animations, conferences, exhibitions, open doors of private places and guided tours, in order to share with the greatest number this plant heritage with the firmament of its beauty in this season.

The Riviera a green destination

Outside of urban parks, the Côte d'Azur boasts over eighty exceptional gardens for their botany, history and location: many offer breathtaking views of the sea or the mountains. Fourteen of them are also labeled "Remarkable Gardens", testifying to their quality and the efforts they have made to present and welcome the public.

Throughout the year, events take pride in flowers and plants. Pégomas in January, then Mandelieu and Tanneron in February celebrate the mimosa while Nice staged on its Promenade des Anglais its mythic flower battles during its carnival. In March, Tourrettes-sur-Loup dresses in the colors of the Violette, while the harbor of Villefranche-sur-mer organizes its naval floral blossoms and that the gardens of Menton adorn citrus. In April Bar-sur-Loup celebrates the orange tree and Falicon the carnation. In the beautiful month of May, events take place with Expo Rose and the centifolia festival in Grasse, the rose festival in Opio, the exhibition Autour de la Rose in La-Colle-sur-Loup and the feast of The orange blossom in Vallauris.

In June, Menton sublimates its gardens. In July, Grasse celebrates its historic flower: jasmine. Finally, in September is held the Feast of the Holy Flower in Nice.

The awakening of the senses

Ten ephemeral gardens of 200 m² participate in the contest. All must present an atmosphere around the common theme "Awakening the senses". The participants were selected by a technical committee chaired by the great landscape architect Jean Mus. Three prizes will be awarded.

Menton, the undisputed citrus capital with its famous lemon festival, which takes place every winter in February, presents itself as "La cité des jardins". The city alone houses four of the 14 listed gardens of the Côte d'Azur.

"This festival is very good news! It is a beautiful way to highlight our exceptional gardens. Beyond the tourists, I think this event will make people who come to our gardens regularly want to rediscover them, "says Franck Roturier, head of the parks and gardens department in Menton for seven years."

"The theme of the five senses has excited our teams. For the two ephemeral gardens that we will present for the contest and then throughout the summer season, we are focusing on vegetable plants for the first. The second garden will offer beautiful surprises including unusual arrangements articulated around the scents and well-being. The two gardens we will present for the competition will be radically different. "

With such enthusiasm, an undeniable know-how and a huge lot of open play, the festival will be a great success. More than 400,000 visitors are expected.
