Beyond Paris Paris fr

There is more to France than the fashionable Paris. With one of the most extensive and modern railway networks in Europe, discovering the country’s wealth of culture, gastronomy and landscapes beyond this city of love is easy. The best way to do it is with a France Rail Pass.

For some R&R by a laid back coastal town, head to Brittany on France’s north-western peninsula, just a 3hr train ride from Paris. Perfect for soaking up the sun or taking a dip in the rock pools, if you’re looking to escape the city buzz, you will enjoy the much slower pace of life here. To spoil your palate, head to Rennes, the capital, to indulge in some of the finest food the country has to offer.

Located south-east of France is the region of Aix en-Provence, also a 3hr train ride from Paris. Being 25 km north of the Mediterranean coast, the weather here is warm for the most part of the year. Set against a mountainous backdrop, the city is well known for its thermal hot springs, art schools and universities. So if the landscape isn’t therapeutic enough, you might want to soak in one or some of the many thermal baths and spas peppered throughout the region.

And if pretty historical towns take your fancy, nothing beats the picture perfect port of Honfleur. Filled with charming and character filled houses, galleries and restaurants, the intimate portside town is one not to miss when in the Normandy. Untouched by the passage of time, the people of Honfleur have successfully preserved its past, traditions and even way of life. Only 1.10hr north of Paris, a day trip here is well worth your while.
