Saint Tropez on the French Riviera unveils Brigitte Bardot's statue

The strong connection between Brigitte Bardot and Saint Tropez

The love story between Saint-Tropez and French actress Brigitte Bardot began since childhood in the family house in rue de la Miséricorde and went on to continue when Brigitte Bardot, now an animal rights activist, starred in the movie, 'And God Created Woman', that was extensively shot in the French Riviera. Following the success of the movie, Bardot was launched into an international star and Saint Tropez, from a small fishing village into a modern chic seaside holiday.

The statue to honour the star, Brigitte Bardot

Such is the strong connection between Bardot and St. Tropez, that the city has honoured Bardot on the occasion of her birthday with a statue in 2017. The statue, based on a watercolour drawing made by an Italian artist, measures approximately 8.2 feet and weighs more than 1500 pounds. The bronze statue was unveiled on the 28th September 2017 and stands in front of the Musée de la Gendarmerie et du Cinéma.

Although Bardot wasn't present during the unveiling, the French star conveyed her happiness in a hand-written note, thanking the town for the "immense honour" of the "magnificent statue immortalising the woman that God created in Saint-Tropez!"
