The internationally renowned Beaune Baroque Opera Festival pulls out all the stops to celebrate its 35th anniversary.
From 7 to 30 July, take your pick from no less than 9 operas and oratorios as well as 3 opera recitals by illustrious artists, conductors and ensembles such as William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, René Jacobs, Max Emanuel Cencic and rising stars on the international opera scene such as Lea Desandre and Reinoud Van Mechelen.
This year's edition presents an array of famous operas such as Mozart's Don Giovanni and Monteverdi's Orfeo as well as re-premieres of rarely performed works such as A. Scarlatti's Mitridate. As always the scene is set in the beautiful courtyard ofthe Hospices de Beaune and the Basilica of Notre Dame.
To mark the occasion of its 35th anniversary, the well-known opera festival revives a long-lost gastronomic tradition by hosting a genuine baroque buffet on the night of July 15 after the concert performed by William Christie and Les Arts Florissants. This will be a unique opportunity to taste authentic French and Italian cooking recipes straight out of the 17th and 18th centuries while enjoying exquisite wines from the top winemakers of Burgundy.
The beautiful gardens* of the Hospices de Beaune provide the setting for this exclusive event and will be especially decorated for the occasion.
In addition to this, food and wine lovers will particularly enjoy beginning each concert with a private buffet and wine-tasting in the 17th century wine cellar of the Hospices de Beaune open to festival-goers only, before heading upstairs to the courtyard or the Basilica for an unforgettable evening in the company of their favourite artists. Do not miss this opportunity to indulge in exquisite food and wine pairings created especially for the occasion by an upcoming award-winning chef.
