La Maison du Colombier is a gastro-bar located steps away from Beaune’s main square. It is serving both a tapas option, sandwiches and platters of Iberian charcuterie and three starters, three main dishes plus cheeses and desserts. The wine list includes more than 800 references, and a nice selection of wines by the glass is available. All the products are fresh and come from local producers, and the homemade dishes change every two days. A beautiful terrace is open from spring, offering a beautiful view of the Notre Dame collegiate of Beaune.
“A Foodie and Wino Jewel”
(Review extract from the TripAdvisor Community)
If you've ever wondered what many starred Michelin chefs dream of doing, the Maison du Colombier is it. Roland Chanliaud, who was the chef at the starre Jardins des Remparts for years, now runs this tiny jewel with his delightful partner Francoise Vial. High-top tables across from the kitchen and small "caves" furnished with couches and comfy chairs make up this small wine bar/restaurant's seating arrangements. Located steps away from Beaune's main square and numerous hotels, it is THE place to go for a relaxed, fun-filled meal with great food and superb wines.
The "menu" is divided into two basic parts. First of all there are the "tartines", basically open-faced sandwiches topped with a variety of succulent things (sardines with lemon, boudin with rosemary, tarama with truffles, etc). Then there is a more "regular" menu of appetizers and main course that changes regularly (a lamb dish at a recent meal was outstanding). In addition, don't forget to ask if the chef has any specials as the spectacular razorclams and squid dishes I had weren't on the menu).
The wine list is truly outstanding, with a huge variety of selections, all fairly priced, from the neighboring hillside of Burgundy to many other regions of France and beyond.
This is a real winner!
A place steeped in history
Dating from 1574, la Maison du Colombier is a well known historical monument in Beaune. It's instantly recognisable, with its high hexagonal turret and bartizan. It stands at the very heart of the town, opposite the Notre Dame basilica.
Bare stonework, exposed beams and the three small vaulted cellars arranged in a line give the ground floor its considerable charm. Authentic woods, together with noble velvet create a warm, inviting interior setting.
A masterful wine selection
For over 20 years, Roland has enjoyed meeting wine-growers and sharing with them a passion and enthusiasm for the work of the vineyard and for seeking the very best.
As a result of these joint efforts, an exceptional wine-list was born: it brings together a selection of Champagnes, Burgundy wines and wines from other places.
You can choose from a selection of over 800 wines, from Appellation Village to Grand Cru.
