Discover Burgundy’s natural splendours

Hiking, cycle touring and cruising are just some of the options available to visitors keen to explore the bucolic landscapes of this region and to make some unforgettable discoveries, such as a small country bistro, the cellars of a local wine-producer, a Romanesque abbey or a Renaissance château!

Why not explore the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan on foot via the “Tour du Morvan”, a waymarked hiking trail which passes a number of lakes within the park… and if you’re a wine enthusiast as well, you can rest assured that this route never diverts too far from the vineyards of the Maçonnais.

Keen on cycling? If so, the 650km of cycle routes which are part of the “Tour de Bourgogne à vélo®” network provide an unforgettable opportunity to discover the numerous highlights of this delightful region. Many of these cycle routes run alongside Burgundy’s canals, following former towpaths which have been converted nowadays into “green ways” or cycling trails.

Did you know that Burgundy has 1,000km of navigable waterways?
If you fancy the idea of gently meandering along Burgundy’s canals, get in touch with one of the region’s many boat hire companies. For example, the Canal du Nivernais will provide you with an unforgettable introduction to the region. Considered by experienced amateur sailors to be the most beautiful canal in Burgundy, this hugely unspoilt waterway has often been described as the most scenic canal in France. Choose between a boat with on-board cabins, a hotel-barge, a small cruise ship or a boat for a short excursion – the options are endless, so there’s something to suit every taste.
