The history of Leonardo da Vinci and his masterpieces, including The Mona Lisa, during his time in France begins at the Château du Clos Lucé. Invited by King Francis I of France, Leonardo da Vinci left Italy and took up residence at the Château du Clos Lucé in the autumn of 1516. Appointed 'first painter, engineer and architect to the King', da Vinci served the monarch with his talents, working tirelessly on numerous projects and imagining plans for the 'ideal' château.

On 23 April 1519, Leonardo da Vinci asked Guillaume Boureau—a local notary in Amboise—to draw up his will. He died at Clos Lucé on 2 May 1519, but not before commending his soul to God and making provisions for his burial. This date marks the beginning of a universal and timeless icon.

The first cultural park of its kind, the landscaped trail at the Château du Clos Lucé in Amboise is a voyage of discovery following in the footsteps of the visionary genius that was Leonardo da Vinci.
Set over a few acres, the 'Jardin de Léonard' (Leonardo’s garden) has been landscaped in the spirit of Leonardo da Vinci’s paintings and drawings. It offers an experience for the senses and demonstrates Leonardo’s fascination with nature about which he once said: “It’s all here.”

Sieur Sausin, "Maistre queux" specialist in historic culinary arts, welcomes you to discover his recipes inspired from the Renaissance time in his XVth century priory converted in a Renaissance style “Auberge”, with its Renaissance rooms and terrace shaded in the heart of the garden. Meals are served in Renaissance time costumes and offer “many palate pleasures” from Renaissance recipes.
