The Pic du Midi

The most stunning views in the Pyrenees

This popular high-altitude peak, accessible to hikers, climbers and the public alike throughout the year, is renowned for its incredible and unique views.

From its terraces, the view extends across the entire Pyrenean chain . Reached via La Mongie, the Pic du Midi offers myriad options to visitors, including hiking and sporting activities, a museum, gourmet lunches etc....

A visit to this Pyrenean giant begins with the cable-car. Even in winter, and following a 3,000m ascent, the peak’s summit and the slopes which surround it are accessible to downhill skiers and those who love a sporting challenge and the lure of wide open spaces. Numerous descents with a drop that can exceed 1,500m are available to highly experienced skiers.

Getting to the Pic du Midi

By road: easy access via motorway. Please note that the Col du Tourmalet is closed to traffic in winter. At this time of year, you’ll need to travel via Bagnères-de-Bigorre to reach La Mongie.
By plane: numerous flights operate to Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées international airport. The distance between the airport and the Pic du Midi (cable-car departures from Mongie) is approximately 50km (1hr).
