The World’s most famous cabaret – Le Moulin Rouge – was founded in Paris in 1889. Over 125 years later, night-owls and partygoers from all over the World come to relive the Belle-Epoque era in all its glory.
Belle Epoque Glamour
Picture this – it’s 1889 and life is carefree and fun. The popular Belle Epoque culture takes up residence at the bottom of Montmartre mound. It is in the heart of this district and this atmosphere that the French Cancan earns its stripes in a legendary cabaret, and that the concept of Music Hall is born – a style that still attracts crowds today.
The whirling legs of the French Cancan are synonymous with the Moulin Rouge. With alluring and colourful costumes the dancers add their own touches of originality to the performances that remain an inevitable part of the Parisian Cabaret experience even today. For over 125 years, 7 days a week, the 1,800 strong audience of the Moulin Rouge’s ‘Féerie’ show are delighted to see the 60 performers - including the 40 Doriss Girls – entertain.
Entertainment for all
Montmartre’s famous cabaret became a place where everyone could have their taste of entertainment. The Moulin Rouge was France’s very first popular ballroom where partygoers could eat, drink, dance, watch operettas and shows, all without any regard for social class or standing.
Crossroads of the Arts
The Moulin Rouge was also where theatre arts and night-time pleasures combined. You may well see the shadow of the artist Toulouse-Lautrec, who found inspiration in both the audiences and the performers of the Moulin Rouge. Maybe you’ll hear the distant sounds of singers and performers gone-by, from La Goulue, Jane Avril or Yvette Guilbert – classics on the French music hall scene.
Whilst in-keeping with the styles of the original creators of the Moulin Rouge Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler, the cabaret still keeps a fresh and modern take on the original music hall style.
Fun champagne-filled evenings in front of the 60 performers in Féerie are guaranteed to delight and amaze. The Moulin Rouge and its unique show await…
