Theatre in Paris: Molière, Cyrano, and Piaf with English Subtitles

Good news for non-French-speaking tourists and theatre-lovers: in Paris, experience shows like a local with the help of English subtitles! Discover the startup Theatre in Paris.

A city of art and culture, Paris has so much to offer its visitors: magnificent historical monuments and world-renowned museums, as well as beautiful shows and plays in top-tier theatres. There's just one catch: for the most part, unless you've mastered the French language, it's been difficult to fully appreciate the marvels waiting behind the red curtain.

Until now, non-Francophone visitors preferred to go to the cabaret or the opera, which presented fewer language barriers. But that's all about to change thanks to the Theatre in Paris startup, which offers "surtitles" - or high-quality translated subtitles projected above the stage - in a dozen different Parisian partner theaters. Finally, everyone can experience shows like a local in the City of Light, be they classics, contemporary pieces, or musical comedies.

Partner Theaters

Previously, the Opéra Bastille was the only local establishment to offer surtitles in English. With Theatre in Paris, the entire theatrical world is opening up with real-time translations. In a dozen different partner theaters across the capital, shows are surtitled in English just above the stage, with Spanish and Italian options available upon request. Included on the list of participating locations are some of the biggest names in Parisian theater, like the Théâtre des Variétés on the Grands Boulevards of the Théâtre du Ranelagh, just a short distance from the Eiffel Tower.

Shows currently available with English surtitles: La récompense / The Prize (comedy) at the Théâtre Edouard VII; Cyrano de Bergerac et Les fourberies de Scapin / Scapin the Schemer (classic) at the Théâtre Le Ranelagh; Un été 44 / Summer 44 (musical comedy) at the Théâtre Le Comédia; Molière malgré moi / Molière in spite of myself (contemporary) at the Théâtre de la Gaité-Montparnasse; I love Piaf (musical) at the Théâtre Trévise.

Theatre in Paris Welcomes Theatergoers

Theatre in Paris doesn't stop at translations: it also accomodates the needs of its theatergoers! In addition to a simple, easy-to-use reservation system, it welcomes its customers in person at each theatre. Once there, an English-speaking guide presents the history of the location and the show they're about to see, as well as instructions on how to best read the surtitles.
